Director in security line for ‘Layover’

John Singleton to helm and produce action thriller

John Singleton has signed on to direct and produce the action thriller “Layover” for Sierra Pictures with Sierra president Nick Meyer also producing.

Sierra’s optioned the script by Jay Longino and Michael Browning, centering on an ex-con whose family is kidnapped by a group of corrupt TSA agents while on a seven-hour layover. Bernie Cahill will exec produce.

Singleton’s next directing Lionsgate’s thriller “Abduction,” starring Taylor Lautner and shooting this summer in Pittsburgh. His other directing credits include “Four Brothers,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Shaft,” “Higher Learning” and “Boys N The Hood.”

Longino and Browning sold their spec “Little Big War” to Fox in 2008. Longino’s individual credits include “For Sale” at New Line and “Skin to Sin” at Lionsgate while Browning’s include “Six Days, Seven Nights” and “Bad Company.”

Meyer and Marc Schaberg launched Sierra in June as a finance, production and foreign sales company.
