FishBowl eyes deals on all platforms
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” exec producer Vin Di Bona and Disney-ABC vet Bruce Gersh have partnered to form FishBowl Worldwide Media, which will develop projects for film, television and emerging platforms.
Di Bona (the company’s chairman) and Gersh (president-CEO) plan to engineer deals with marketers, digital companies and ad agencies in addition to traditional Hollywood channels. The company will be based at Vin Di Bona Prods.’ exisiting offices in West L.A. Di Bona Prods. will continue to operate separately as the home of “AFV,” but all new projects will flow through FishBowl, and FishBowl will develop ancillary businesses tied to the long-running ABC vidclip series.
Di Bona had worked with Gersh for years during the latter’s run as an ABC exec. The two recently decided the time was right to hang out a shingle aimed at fostering entrepreneurial production ventures. They hope to lure top creative talent to work with them on the promise of getting a larger slice of any profits than the terms typically offered by the majors.
Di Bona said he was encouraged by the success he’s had with graphic novels since launching his Devil’s Due Publishing imprint in 2008.
We’re going to take an entrepreneurial approach on attracting partners and attracting capital. Our focus will be on finding new ways to make production successful,” Di Bona said. “It may be different for every project.”
Gersh spent eight years at Disney-ABC Television Group. More recently he was senior veep of strategy and operations at WMA, where he helped orchestrate the kidvid cabler deal between Hasbro and Discovery.
