Danny Aiello III dies of cancer

Actor-director was head of SAG's stunt safety committee

Danny Aiello III, actor, director and stunt coordinator, died May 1 in Hillsdale, N.J., following pancreatic cancer. He was 53.

Born in the Bronx, Aiello grew up around showbiz with his father, Danny Aiello, acting in films including “The Godfather: Part II” and “Do the Right Thing.”

As a stunt coordinator, Aiello’s credits include “Rescue Me,” “All My Children,” and the yet-to-be-released “Sex and the City 2.” He acted as the body-double for his father in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing,” and directed his father in 1999’s “18 Shades of Dust.”

He was a member of SAG’s stunt and safety committee and participated in AFTRA’s contract talks in 2005.

Aiello is survived by his wife, Cindy, and two daughters.
