Cohen Media Group picks up ‘Marguerite’

New distrib takes U.S. rights for Depardieu film

Newly minted distrib Cohen Media Group has acquired U.S. distribution rights to French comedy “My Afternoons With Marguerite,” directed by Jean Becker and starring Gerard Depardieu.

“Afternoons” is based on Marie-Sabine Roger’s book of the same name and centers on a man who lives a quiet, simple life in a trailer in his mother’s garden.

CMG previously announced that it will be releasing Rachid Bouchareb’s “Outside the Law,” the official Algerian submission to the Academy Awards. “Law,” which will debut Nov. 3, premiered at Cannes and screened in Toronto.

CMG was a producer on 2008’s “Frozen River.” The distribution operation was formed by Charles S. Cohen, Edmondo Schwartz and Steve Scheffer to distribute independent and foreign films in North America.
