George Clooney and MTV Networks are leading an effort to organize a Jan. 22 primetime telethon to raise money for aid to victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
The details of the telethon were in the embryonic stage as of Thursday, but the existing plan is for it to air from 8- 10 p.m. ET. MTV Networks said it is collaborating with Clooney on the telethon, and HBO and CBS have confirmed they are onboard.
Sources indicated ABC, NBC and CNN are among the networks MTV is asking to join in, but their participation wasn’t immediately confirmed.
Producing the telethon will be Joel Gallen, who shepherded the 9/11 telethon “America: A Tribute to Heroes” that aired 10 days after that tragedy.
