U.S. cabler to kick off new year with Spanish hits

U.S. Spanish-lingo premium feevee Cinelatino will kick off the new year with some of the biggest box office hits in Latin America, led by the U.S. premiere of “El Estudiante” (The Student), a boffo hit in Mexico in 2009.

“Estudiante” tracks a 70-year-old man who returns to college to study literature but ends up learning and sharing valuable life lessons.

In addition to “El Estudiante,” which premieres Jan. 1, Cinelatino will showcase international megahits such as Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth” and new releases led by “Recien cazado” (I Do … Knot).

Cinelatino is jointly owned by Mexico’s Grupo MVS, private equity investor InterMedia Partners and Miami-based Panamax Films.
