MK2 adds U.K. and Japan to pic's 30-territory haul
French mini-major MK2 has sold two more key territories on Abbas Kiarostami’s “Certified Copy,” closing the U.K. with Artificial Eye and Japan with Eurospace.The Juliette Binoche-starrer has been picked up in more than 30 territories, including Spain (Wanda Films), Brazil (Imovision) and Mexico (Mantarraya Prods). The Cannes competition title, which won Binoche an actress Palme d’Or, has recently been acquired by IFC Films for the U.S., Madman for Australia/New Zealand, Yega Entertainment for Korea, First Distributors for Hong Kong and Atlantic Film for the Nordic countries. MK2 released “Copy” in Gaul, Alternative Films in Belgium and Praesens in Switzerland on May 19, while BIM Distribuzione released it in Italy on May 25. Rolling off Cannes, MK2 has also inked pre-sales on Walter Sales’ “On the Road” to Media Entertainment for the Middle East and Nutopia for Grece. These deals follow sales to Icon for the U.K. and Australia, as well as powerhouse European distribution outfits — Concorde for German-speaking territories and Cineart for Benelux. MK2 will handle “On the Road’s” French theatrical release. Pic has been acquired in more than 15 territories, per MK2′s sales agent Juliette Schrameck. Pic, starring Kirsten Dunst, Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart, is an international co-production between MK2′s Nathanael Karmitz and Charles Gillibert, Francis Ford Coppola’s San Francisco-based American Zoetrope, Salles’ Rio de Janeiro-based Videofilmes, Los Angeles Film Festival director Rebecca Yeldham and the U.K.’s Film4.
