Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation is developing an untitled international action thriller with the “Casino Royale” writing team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.Project, announced Tuesday, is based on an original concept from Michael Lieber and Walter Parkes. Producers are Parkes, Lieber and Laurie MacDonald with Parkes/MacDonald exec Marc Resteghini overseeing. Film centers on an American anthropologist who travels back to the Sahara to come to the assistance of one of his former research subjects — a young man who has been accused of a terrorist attack. Story will be set among the Tuareg tribes of the Sahara in West Africa, a nomadic people whose uranium-rich land has become a focal point for both energy companies and terrorist states. Purvis and Wade also penned “Quantum of Solace” and recently adapted John Le Carre’s “The Mission Song” for Potboiler Prods. Their “Corsica ’72” is being packaged with Ruby Films. Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation was formed last October with Imagenation Abu Dhabi providing a $10 million revolving financing fund to develop film projects. The company invests in Parkes/MacDonald projects developed under their first-look deal with DreamWorks as well as directly with Imagenation Abu Dhabi or with other major studios. Imagenation also has partnerships with Participant Media, National Geographic and Hyde Park Entertainment. Parkes MacDonald/Imagenation recently partnered with StudioCanal on a remake of “The Fallen Idol” with David Farr (“Hanna”) adapting the screenplay. Additional projects include “Earthbound” by Richard Matheson; “The Museum of SuperNatural History,” based on a website created by Ernest Lupinacci; and “Eat, Sleep, Poop: A Common Sense Guide to Your Baby’s First Year” by Scott W. Cohen.
