The Palm Springs Film Festival will present Carey Mulligan with its breakthrough performance award for “Never Let Me Go” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”
“Carey Mulligan is an actress of extraordinary talent and versatility,” said festival chair Harold Matzner. “She brings uncommon vision and depth to her art.”
In “Never Let Me Go” Mulligan is caught in a love triangle in an alternate reality; in “Money Never Sleeps,” she’s the daughter of iconic character Gordon Gekko. Mulligan received an Oscar nomination for the 2009 “An Education.”
Hosted by Mary Hart, the awards gala will be at the Palm Springs Convention Center Jan. 8. The 22nd annual fest runs Jan. 6 to 17. Past award recipients include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson, Freida Pinto and Jeremy Renner.
