Javier Bardem arrived late for his Dec. 1 preem, a Cinema Society presentation of Roadside Attraction’s “Biutiful” at the Lighthouse Theater. “I was in Boston sleeping when I was supposed to be in New York,” he joked, standing alongside wife Penelope Cruz.
Making the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu-helmed pic indeed was an arduous journey for Bardem, one that required him to be a man battling cancer in nearly every scene.
So no wonder he was tired, as producer Jon Kilik explained it: “He embodies this life. You really feel like you’ve taken this journey in his shoes.” — Lucas Shaw
