Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne’s Unique Features have pushed forward development of an untitled biopic about New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott.
Richard Regen (“Tehran”) has been hired to write the screenplay, focusing on the inspirational life story of Scott. The NFL player grew up amid poverty and violence in Detroit.
Gay Talese is also involved with the film, serving as a creative consultant. Unique is developing the project out of its discretionary fund, which is part of first look deal with Warner Bros.
Unique’s Mark Kaufman will oversee the project.
Shaye and Lynne formed Unique in 2008 after being ousted as longtime New Line toppers by Time Warner as part of its slashing 90% of the minimajor’s staff. It announced the Scott project last year along with animated feature “High in the Clouds,” drama “7th Son,” sci-fi comedy “Alt-Delete” and “Thieves of Baghdad.”
Regen previously wrote “Tehran,” which was optioned by Imagine’s Brian Grazer. He also adapted “Chasing the Dragon,” a memoir about the Chinese Civil War for Universal and Tribeca’s Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro.
