Berney, Beresford get Woodstock kudos

Film festival to give out honorary awards in October

Bob Berney and Bruce Beresford will each receive an honorary kudo from the 2010 Woodstock Film Festival.

Indie film veteran Berney, whose surprise exit from Apparition in May provided much discussion fodder at Cannes, will get the fest’s honorary trailblazer award.

Helmer Beresford (“Breaker Morant,” “Driving Miss Daisy”), in production on “Peace, Love and Misunderstanding” with Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener, will receive the honorary maverick award. The director’s 2009 film “Mao’s Last Dancer” will go into limited release in the U.S. later this month via Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Woodstock fest, now in its 11th year, runs Sept. 29-Oct. 3, with the awards gala set for Oct. 2.
