Bay’s co. to produce ‘Hansel and Gretel in 3D’

Hansel_gretel_boffo Michael Bay’s The Institute is teaming up with Kalliope Films on a 3D film based on the classic Grimm Brothers fairytale “Hansel and Gretel.”

Scott Gardenhour and Kira Madallo Sesay will produce the live-action pic.

Institute_boffo Founded by Michael Bay and Gardenhour, The Institute is the commercial production house behind “Jumper” and “Pearl Harbor.”

Madallo Sesay, meanwhile, is the founder of Kalliope Films.

“Hansel and Gretel” is scheduled to begin lensing in spring 2011 in Germany. Joseph C. Pepe, the lead character designer on “Avatar” will design the mythological characters.

Bay is currently shooting the third installment of “Transformers.”

    Hansel and Gretel has always been one of my favorite stories so I look forward to seeing it in 3-D. I always loved the witch’s gingerbread home. It not only provided surface protection from the elements, but was edible as well. Looks like there is lots of talent working on the film as well.
