Digital cinema provider previous topper retired

Ending a yearlong transition period, digital cinema provider Ballantyne Strong named Gary L. Cavey as the company’s CEO and president, effective Monday.

Cavey’s appointment, which includes a spot on the board of directors, comes after former head John Wilmers retired from the post in September. Wilmers will stay on through 2011 as a consultant to Cavey in his new post.

Prior to joining Ballantyne, Cavey most recently was chief operating officer of Midland Radio Corp., a manufacturer and sales outlet of wireless communication systems.

Along with providing digital cinema systems, Ballantyne, based in Omaha, Neb., supplies studios, theater chains and theme parks with screen technology and lighting equipment and services.

The company is looking to extend its services to Asian markets, something that Cavey will spearhead.
