‘Babies’ bow

Plenty to ooh and aah at premiere

It was one of those preems where none of the stars showed. Then again, since those stars are now only 3 or 4 years old, the makers of the movie forgave them.

Thomas Balmes’ doc “Babies” follows four infants from birth to first steps, and at Tuesday’s screening at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, the kids from Mongolia and Tokyo drew the most chuckles.

Focus Features picked up the pic, and as studio topper James Schamus explained it, “This is one of the weirdest movies that we’ve ever distributed. Even though it’s completely accessible and fun, it’s actually bizarre.”
