Jaden Smith, who toplines Columbia Pictures’ upcoming “The Karate Kid,” will receive the 2010 ShoWest Breakthrough Male Star of the Year award.
ShoWest gets under way Monday in Las Vegas. The annual confab of theater owners runs through Thursday.
“Karate Kid,” which opens in theaters June 11, will be screened for exhibs at the huddle.
“Jaden Smith is an exceptional young actor who has delivered a true breakout performance with his portrayal of Dre Parker in ‘The Karate Kid,’ ” said ShoWest managing director Robert Sunshine.
Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, made his debut in “The Pursuit of Happyness,” starring his father.
He also starred in the “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”
