Swiss distrib group Ascot Elite has launched a theatrical and home entertainment label showcasing documentaries for the German market.
Hot Doks will focus on rarely seen works, the company said, adding that its benchmark for the label were three already in release: Billy Corben’s “Cocaine Cowboys” and “Cocaine Cowboys II,” which trace the rise of illicit drug dealers in Miami and Oakland, as well as “La vida loca,” about El Salvador’s violent gang culture, by French filmmaker Christian Poveda, who was murdered in the Central American country last year.
Label’s upcoming highlights include Michael Epstein’s “LennonNYC,” an intimate portrait of John Lennon and his years in New York. Hot Doks is releasing the DVD and Blu-ray in December, the 30th anniversary of Lennon’s death.
CEO Ralph Stephan Dietrich said Ascot Elite plans to release some docs in theaters at the same time as on DVD and video-on-demand, as well as selling to TV.
