Actor nabs roles in 'Wanderlust,' 'Tower Heist'

Alan Alda has been tapped to co-star in two comedies for Universal: “Wanderlust” and “Tower Heist.”

Thesp joins an ensemble cast in “Wanderlust” led by Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman, while Ben Stiller toplines “Tower Heist.”

“Wanderlust,” directed by David Wain from a script he co-wrote with Ken Marino, is the story of a married couple (Aniston, Rudd) who try to escape modern society by joining a commune. Alda will play the leader of the naturist village.

Judd Apatow is set to produce the film through his Apatow Prods. shingle, with Wain, Marino and Rudd also producing. Dick Vane is exec producer.

“Tower Heist,” about a team of luxury highrise workers who rob a corrupt penthouse tenant, is directed by Brett Ratner. Team of scripters includes Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, with Russell Gerwitz, Rawson Thurber, Ted Griffin, Leslie Dixon, Noah Baumbach and Jeff Nathanson.

Brian Grazer will produce “Tower Heist” for Imagine Entertainment; Kim Roth exec produces.

U pair will be the first feature appearances for Alda since 2008 when he co-starred in the studio’s “Flash of Genius,” as well as Yari Film Group’s Rod Lurie potboiler “Nothing but the Truth” and “Diminished Capacity,” from IFC. Alda had a guest stint last year on NBC’s “30 Rock.”
