AFI Fest to preem ‘Love & Other Drugs’

'Black Swan' to close the fest on Nov. 11

AFI Fest will host the world premiere of Edward Zwick’s “Love and Other Drugs” as the festival’s opening night gala on Nov. 4. Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” closes the fest on Nov. 11.

Fest will take place at the Chinese Theater, the Mann Chinese 6, the Egyptian and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Bob Gazzale, prexy and CEO of the American Film Institute, noted that both Zwick and Aronofsky are alumni of the AFI Conservatory. “Both men symbolize a perfect fusion of the Institute’s national mandate to educate the next generation of storytellers and to honor the artists and their work,” he added.

“Love” stars Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal with the screenplay by Charles Randolph, Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, based on the book “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.” It’s produced by Scott Stuber, Zwick, Herskovitz, Randolph and Pieter Jan Brugge.

Fox will release “Love” on Nov. 24.

“Swan” is written by Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin, and stars Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder. The film is produced by Mike Medavoy, Arnold W. Messer, Brian Oliver and Scott Franklin.

Searchlight releases “Swan” on Dec. 1.
