Sony Pictures Classics unveiled “Mother and Child” at the Egyptian on Monday night. Annette Bening, who stars in the family drama, said writer-director Rodrigo Garcia possesses a certain gift when it comes to writing for women.
“I don’t know how he does it,” she said. “He has a very empathic ability to enter their imagination. It’s quite impressive.”
Garcia said, “Perhaps, although my wife would beg to differ.”
Also on hand for the event was “Mother and Child” thesp Samuel L. Jackson, who recalled good times at the legendary theater.
“I think the last time I was at the Egyptian was with a very cool film that won a bunch of awards,” he said of “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.” “So maybe we’ll be just as lucky with this one.”
