Actors seek ‘Salvation’

Connelly, Kinnear join comedy-thriller

Jennifer Connelly and Greg Kinnear have been added to the cast and Marisa Tomei is in negotiations to star in comedy-thriller “Salvation Boulevard” for Mandalay Vision.

The trio is joining previously announced cast Pierce Brosnan, Jim Gaffigan and Ed Harris. George Ratliff (“Joshua”) will direct the screenplay he penned with Douglas Stone, based on the book of the same name by Larry Beinhart (“Wag the Dog”).

Mandalay Pictures’s Cathy Schulman and Mandalay Vision’s Celine Rattray will produce, with Scarlett Lacey overseeing production. Lensing is scheduled to start in April.

Salvation Boulevard” centers on a former Deadhead turned born-again Christian who finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega-church who will do anything to protect their larger-than-life pastor.

Mandalay Vision is the newly minted indie development, production and financing arm of Mandalay Entertainment Group. Its slate includes “The Kids Are All Right,” starring Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo and purchased at Sundance by Focus; “Vanishing on 7th Street,” an apocalyptic horror pic starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo; and “Soul Surfer,” based on the autobiography of surfer Bethany Hamilton, starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood.

Connelly recently wrapped “What’s Wrong with Virginia,” directed by Dustin Lance Black; Kinnear will next be seen in “The Last Song” on March 31. Tomei will next be seen in “Cyrus” opposite John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill and Catherine Keener.
