Actor/a.d. Gary Brockette dies

Appeared in 'Last Picture Show,' 'Philadelpha Experiment'

Gary Brockette, a former actor who became an assistant director, died Friday from complications due to cancer. He was 62.

Born in Denton, Texas, he began his career as an actor in New York, appearing in films including “The Last Picture Show” and “The Philadelphia Experiment.”

After teaching and directing at the American Theater Arts conservatory in Hollywood, he moved behind the camera, first as a script supervisor and acting coach, then as a screenwriter, first assistant director, UPM, line producer and director on TV series and features.

Among his credits as assistant director or production manager were “Mysterious,” “Truth and Dare,” “Streets of Legend” and “Adam and Eve.”

He is survived by his partner, Lee Slocum; his mother, a sister and a stepdaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Tom and Martha Burns, 4385 Cobblestone Lane, La Canada, CA 91011.
