J.J. Abrams is confirmed to direct “Super 8” for Paramount, and produce with Steven Spielberg.
A trailer of the film is on “Iron Man 2,” which opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Film is not a sequel to Abrams’ monster pic “Cloverfield,” as rumored by numerous bloggers.
“Super 8,” written by Abrams and based on his original idea, is skedded for a summer 2011 release and will be the next film he directs. He’ll begin lensing this fall.
Abrams will follow “Super 8” with the “Star Trek” sequel, which hits theaters in 2012.
Logline for “Super 8” is being kept under wraps, except to say it is inspired by Abrams’ favorite movies growing up, including some of Spielberg’s.
Producers are Abrams and his partner at Bad Robot, Bryan Burk. Spielberg is producing via Amblin entertainment.
Production budget is between $45 million and $50 million.
