Hugh Jackman's 'Romance' raises coin for MPTF

Hugh Jackman hosted Saturday night’s “A Fine Romance,” a fundraiser for the Motion Picture & Television Fund that brought a taste of Broadway to Stage 8 on the 20th Century Fox lot.

In addition to Jackman and Brian Stokes Mitchell’s rendition of “You’re Nothing Without Me,” Shirley MacLaine and Hector Elizondo sang “I Remember It Well,” James Marsden offered a “Hairspray” medley and Katie Holmes performed “Whatever Lola Wants” with an assist from hubby Tom Cruise. (No, they didn’t get a babysitter. Suri was in the aud too).

Joel Grey, Kelli O’Hara, Melina Kanakaredes, Christine Ebersol, Leslie Uggams, Cheyenne Jackson, Lea Salonga, Patti LuPone and Aaron Tveit also warbled.

Jackman kept the mood light and breezy, but he couldn’t resist a jibe at Arizona’s immigration law, noting that he’d been in the state the day before and was afraid that if the governor “heard my accent” he’d be shipped back to Oz.

The fifth “Fine Romance,” produced by Laurence Mark and Dan Jinks and directed by Adam Shankman, raised $1.5 million for the fund, a record for the event.
