33 filmmakers selected for Project: Involve

Program runs from October through June

Film Independent has selected 33 emerging filmmakers for Project: Involve, the org’s annual diversity mentorship program. Mentors and guest speakers include writer/director Mark Romanek, who helmed “Never Let Me Go” and “One Hour Photo,” as well as scribes Michael Elliot and Ligiah Villabos.

Program, dedicated to fostering the careers of promising filmmakers from under-represented communities, runs from October through June in Los Angeles. During the nine-month run, participants will create a short film in addition to attending workshops and one-on-one discussions. Upon graduation, filmmakers will become Film Independent Fellows and receive year-round support from the org.

Past Film Independent Fellows from Project: Involve include Jon Chu of “Step Up 3D” and Cherien Dabis of “Amreeka.”
