Weinstein Co. acquires ‘The Tillman Story’

Studio purchases Pat Tillman doc, its second Sundance buy

The Weinstein Co. has finalized its deal for “The Tillman Story,” the second title that TWC’s acquired from the 2010 Sundance film fest lineup.

TWC announced the “Tillman” transaction Friday, a week after it acquired North American and pan-Asian TV rights to writer-director Derek Cianfrance’s relationship drama “Blue Valentine,” starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.

Distrib’s snagged North American, U.K., Australia and New Zealand rights on docu “The Tillman Story,” the military death exposé about NFL player Pat Tillman, helmed by Amir Bar-Lev and written by Mark Monroe (“The Cove”). “Tillman” is produced by John Battsek of Passion Pictures.

TWC plans to release the film later this year. A&E will follow the film’s theatrical and home video release with a TV broadcast premiere.
