Taraji P. Henson will star in indie sports drama “From the Rough,” with production set to start in New Orleans on Oct. 4.
Pierre Bagley is directing and producing for Gyre Entertainment. Script, penned by Michael A. Critelli, is based on the story of the first female head coach of an NCAA Division I men’s golf team, Catana Starks at Tennessee State U.
She’ll play the fictional character Cassandra Turner, who will represent Starks in the film as a female coach at a historically black college who faces an uphill battle as she attempts to establish the school’s first men’s golf team.
Critelli and Kevin E. Hooks will exec produce.
Henson was seen recently in “Date Night and “The Karate Kid.” She recently wrapped on “Larry Crowne” and “The Good Doctor.”
