Strand picks up N.A. rights to ‘Taqwacores’

Pic about punk Muslims set for fall release

Strand Releasing has acquired North American rights to “The Taqwacores,” centered on the punk Muslim scene in Buffalo.

Strand plans to release “The Taqwacores,” which held its world preem at Sundance in January, in the fall. Directed by Eyad Zahra and written by Zahra and Michael Muhammad Knight, “Taqwacores” focuses on how the beliefs of a Pakistani-Muslim engineering student are severely challenged when he moves into a house filled with punk Muslims.

Bobby Naderi, Noureen DeWulf and Dominic Rains star in the pic, which features music by Taqwacore band the Kominas with an original score by Omar Fadel. Visit Films has also sold the French rights to BAC Films.
