'Last Days of Disco' director sets fourth feature
Director Whit Stillman, whose last film was 1998’s “The Last Days of Disco,” is readying his fourth feature.
The writer-helmer of “Metropolitan,” “Barcelona” and “The Last Days of Disco” will shoot “Damsels in Distress” in August and September at locations in the Northeast.
“It’s a college comedy,” Stillman said. “It’s about four stylish, perfume-obsessed college girls who revolutionize the social life at their grungy university.”
Stillman described “Damsels” as “ultra-low-budget” and said that he was happy with the response from actresses interested in the femme-centric comedy. Pic is casting in New York and Los Angeles.
“Damsels” will be co-produced by Stillman and Alicia Van Couvering, producer of IFC-distribbed SXSW prizewinner “Tiny Furniture.” Helmer said he was hoping for a summer 2011 release date.
The multihyphenate earned an Oscar nom with his script for 1991’s “Metropolitan.”
