Smith quits as Edinburgh fest chair

Producer cites work commitments as reason

LONDON — Edinburgh Intl. Film Festival chair Iain Smith has stepped down from the board after three years.

“The A-Team” producer cited his growing commitments as a producer as the reason for his decision to ankle the post.

Smith joined the EIFF board in 2007 and took the position of chair in 2008 and was instrumental in guiding the festival during a growth period following the U.K. Film Council’s cash injection to the fest in 2008. He also played a crucial role in bringing technology and digital initiatives to the forefront of the fest.

“My growing commitments as a producer have meant my time is limited so regrettably I have decided to step down as a board member for the EIFF,” Smith said.

He added he would continue to be on hand to offer support and advice to the fest.

The news comes several weeks after Hannah McGill announced she would ankle her post as artistic director of the fest after three years.
