As expected, the weekend’s B.O. landscape saw modest results, down 22% from the comparable frame’s record-setting totals last year. But with a promising June slate, studios have yet to close the book on summer box office, and May B.O. was down a moderate 3% over last year.
May turned out to be a soft intro to the summer season, though players like Paramount’s “Iron Man 2” and “Shrek Forever After,” along with Summit’s “Letters to Juliet” and Universal’s “Robin Hood” continue to level the playing field.
