MTV orders 10 episodes for U.S. version of hit Brit series
“Skins” will be receiving a Yank twist, with a 10-episode order from MTV.
The cabler acquired rights to the Brit hit last August.
Shepherded by MTV senior VP Liz Gateley, “Skins” — about a raunchy group of U.K. teens — premiered in January 2007 and was a huge hit on Brit net E4 with a total aud of 1.2 million, a sizable number for U.K. series. Skein also won a BAFTA Audience Award and top drama series at the 2008 Broadcast Awards.
Like the original series, “Skins” will feature a mostly unknown cast. There’s no official production start date, but the series is set to take place in Baltimore.
Created by father and son team Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain, Elsley will exec produce with Charlie Pattinson and George Faber.
Canadian shingle E1 will produce with Company Pictures and Stormdog. The latter two were producers of the original series.
