Sarah Jessica Parker: Busy actress has ‘It’

Comedy Impact Report 2010: Bigscreen Bigshots

Twelve years after “Sex and the City” debuted on HBO, Carrie Bradshaw’s unvarnished wit continued to crack up auds in 2010. Credit Sarah Jessica Parker, whose impeccable comedic timing and delivery is often overlooked when discussing the success of the franchise that spanned six TV seasons and two films.

Yet Parker, who isn’t ruling out the prospect of slipping on Bradshaw’s sky-high Jimmy Choos one more time, passes all the credit along to the property’s scribes, from “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell to show creator Darren Star to the films’ writer-director Michael Patrick King.

“(King) really created a wonderfully funny, complex, complicated, absolutely delightful character to play all those years,” Parker says.

Parker, who is coming off “Sex and the City 2’s” $288 million worldwide haul, will next play a harried working mother in “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” She will also continue to read scripts and look for the next great comedy role. Just don’t send her CAA agents anything that feels Bradshaw-esque.

“Nothing is ever going to be ‘Sex and the City’ again, nor should it be,” Parker says. “For me, if it’s familiar, I tend not to do it. It can be hard because there are a lot of archetypes out there that don’t go a lot deeper than that.”
