Mann, Jaffe to produce murder mystery
Sam Worthington will star in murder mystery “Texas Killing Fields,” with Michael Mann producing through his Forward Pass shingle along with Michael Jaffe. Bill Block’s QED Intl. is financing.Mann’s daughter, Ami Canaan Mann, will direct from Donald F. Ferrarone’s script; lensing will start in April in Louisiana. Script focuses on the true story of a pair of police officers who undertook to solve two decades of disappearances and homicides — totalling as many as 60 victims — in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries. Worthington will portray a local homicide detective who works with a New York transplant to wage a war against the unknown but fierce killers. Block will begin to sell international rights at the European Film Market in Berlin. CAA, which reps Michael Mann and Worthington, set up the project with QED; QED and CAA are co-representing domestic rights. Worthington’s involvement with “Texas Killing Fields” had first been reported in November by the Pajiba website. The “Avatar” star is attached to star in another sci-fier, “The Last Days of American Crime,” and was recently shooting the John Madden-helmed remake of “The Debt” opposite Helen Mirren. Worthington also toplines Warner Bros.’ epic “Clash of the Titans,” due out April 2. Michael Mann produced, directed and wrote “Public Enemies” and was one of the producers on “Hancock.” QED financed “District 9.”
