Will adapt Anderson bestseller 'Turn of the Century'
Peter Bogdanovich has signed on to adapt Kurt Anderson’s bestselling novel “Turn of the Century” and direct for Das Films.
Set in February 2000 in the bizarre world of the newly arrived millennium, story centers on a Manhattan power couple and their three private school-reared kids. The hysterical pace of their respective professional lives is vaporizing their already troubled marriage, and the couple must struggle to keep their perspective and save their family.
Das Films’ Sriram Das is producing alongside Melanie Shanley. “His vision for this film and passion for the novel will bring an incredibly funny and powerful story to audiences around the world,” Das said of Bogdanovich.
Though it’s a decidedly Gotham tale, “Turn of the Century,” which was Anderson’s debut novel, has been published in Japanese, Dutch, German, French and Mandarin. Bogdanovich’s writing partner, Parish Rahbar, will co-pen the script.
Lensing is scheduled to start in Gotham in spring 2011.
Founded in 2007, Das Films has a number of literary-based projects in development including the Hilary Swank starrer “Fangland” and “The Contortionist’s Handbook.”
The helmer’s last feature was “The Cat’s Meow” in 2001.
