Paradox locks up ‘Demon’

Winther to direct supernatural action film

Paradox Entertainment, which is bringing “Conan” back to the bigscreen, has optioned the horror pitch “Speed Demon,” co-developed by the late f/x vet Stan Winston, for Peter Winther to direct.

Winther also developed the project, described as a supernatural actioner about an underworld enforcer, who while hunting a small-time crook on a desert highway discovers that he is also being tracked by a mysterious, terrifying creature.

Mike Sorrentino and Randy Vampotic penned the script for the project. Patrick Tatopoulos (the “Underworld” franchise, “I Am Legend”) worked with Winston to design creatures for the film.

Paradox’s Fredrik Malmberg will produce.

Malmberg said that “Speed Demon” is more than a classic creature feature, with great merchandising potential, making it a perfect match for Paradox, .

Should it get distribbed in theaters, “Speed Demon” would mark Winther’s first major film after having helmed episodes of “Leverage” and TNT’s “Librarian” pics.

Paradox is also prepping a reboot of “Buck Rogers” with Lawrence Abramson and George Furla, as well as pics based on “Kull” and “Dark Agnes,” based on the Robert E. Howard books. “Conan,” produced with Avi Lerner and Millennium Films, bows next year.
