Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up North American rights to Yael Hersonski’s docu “A Film Unfinished” for a New York opening in August ahead of a subsequent national release.
Pic premiered at Sundance, where it won the World Cinema Documentary Editing Award, and also played at Berlinale 2010. Doc’s subject matter is Nazi propaganda and an hour’s worth of film discovered at the end of WWII that purported to be a chronicle of life in the Warsaw ghetto.
“Our entire staff was blown away by the movie,” said Oscilloscope co-founder David Fenkel. “‘A Film Unfinished’ follows O-scope’s tradition of releasing award-winning, powerful documentaries, and we’re excited about its potential.”
Oscilloscope will bow “Film Unfinished” at Film Forum Aug. 18 and at Lincoln Plaza Aug. 20, with national release to follow.
Other upcoming releases from Oscilloscope, the production and distribution company launched in 2008 by the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, include Lance Daly’s “Kisses” and the re-release of Jules Dassin’s “The Law.”
