Nat Geo acquires ‘Restrepo’

Doc is slated for Sundance opening night

National Geographic Channel has acquired global broadcast rights for feature doc “Restrepo,” which is slated to be the opening night documentary at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.

Co-directed and co-produced by photojournalist Tim Hetherington and author Sebastian Junger (“The Perfect Storm”), “Restrepo” chronicles life from May 2007 to July 2008 at one of the most dangerous outposts for the U.S. military in Afghanistan. Hetherington and Junger then included post-deployment interviews with their main characters.

John Battsek exec produced “Restrepo.” United Talent Agency is representing the film’s theatrical rights.
