Muppet movie to open Christmas Day

Disney keeps pic's details, including title, wrapped up

Disney is looking to maintain its strong hold on the Thanksgiving B.O. next year, dating “The Muppets Movie” for Wednesday, Nov. 23.
The Mouse House first skedded the film to go wide Christmas Day but likely moved it after the success of 3D toon “Tangled,” which opened with $69 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday.
In its new date, “The Muppets Movie” will go up against Sony’s Aardman Animations toon “Arthur Christmas” and Warner Bros. comedy “Project X.”
Disney has traditionally dominated the holiday frame. The studio currently holds the top three five-day Thanksgiving openings, with “Toy Story 2,” “Tangled” and “Enchanted.” “Tangled” has cumed nearly $100 million domestically.
So far, Disney has kept most details for its bigscreen Muppets revival under wraps, though it has announced there will be cameos from actors including Alan Arkin, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Billy Crystal and Wanda Sykes.
Directed by James Bobin, “The Muppets Movie” teams characters including, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy with actors Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones. Pic, written by Segel and Nicholas Stoller, is currently lensing in L.A.
