Worked on campaigns of 'Midnight Cowboy,' 'The Graduate'
Marketing maven Gary Allen died of injuries from a motorcycle accident March 15 in Los Angeles. He was 68.Allen was responsible for creating trailers, posters/one-sheets and radio spots for films from “Midnight Cowboy,” to “The Graduate,” “Animal House” and the original “Star Wars.” Born in East Orange, N.J., Allen’s involvement in promoting films began with 1965’s campaign for United Artists’ “How to Murder Your Wife,” according to his blog on MySpace. Along with partner Joe Menza and his wife, Barbara Toennies, he founded Entertainment Marketing Concepts in 1982, which continues to produce marketing materials and documentaries for films. Allen is survived by his wife, five children and two grandchildren. Donations may be made to Heal the Bay.
