Distributor nabs world rights to documentary
Magnolia Pictures has snapped up world rights to “Smash His Camera,” the docu that scored a directing award at Sundance this year for helmer Leon Gast (“When We Were Kings”).
Exact timing for the theatrical release has not been nailed down. U.S. broadcast rights already have been picked up by HBO.
Pic, produced by Adam Schlesinger and Linda Saffire, focuses on the exploits of famously aggressive Gotham paparazzo Ron Galella, well known for hounding Jackie Onassis and getting socked by Marlon Brando.
Deal was negotiated by Magnolia senior veep Tom Quinn with Submarine’s Josh Braun and Jason Janego.
“Smash” joins a slate of upcoming Magnolia releases including “Ondine,” “The Good Heart” and “The Extra Man.”
