Lorber Films musters for ‘Army of Crime’

Distrib lands U.S. rights to French Resistance drama

European major StudioCanal has sold Robert Guediguian’s “Army of Crime” to Lorber Films for the U.S.

In an all-rights deal, Lorber Films, a releasing arm of Kino Lorber, will look to platform “Army” in the months after it plays at March’s New York Rendez-Vous With French Cinema, organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Unifrance.

Following the U.S. preem, Lorber plans a spring or summer opening in New York, widening to cities across the U.S. as well as playdates at U.S. film festivals.

“Army” centers communist immigrant members of the French Resistance in Paris during World War II. Pic played out of competition at 2009’s Cannes Film Festival. Its cast incluyes Viriginie Ledoyen, Simon Abkarian, and Jean-Pierre Darroussin.

Richard Lorber, co-prexy and CEO of Kino Lorber, praised the film’s “sweeping cinematic mise-en-scene and the compelling moral dilemmas posed in its brilliant character-driven true story.”
