'What you love or hate about the city' is fest theme

The “Get L.A.” competition, sponsored by the Los Angeles Magazine Foundation and L.A. Works, the volunteer action center, calls for contestants to submit three-minute videos that can be biographical, fictional or documentary portraits of the city and its residents. The competition will run from Feb. 3 to March 3, with finalists posted online on March 15 and winners announced in early April. Viewers will be able to choose an audience favorite at the website, lamag.com/citythink/getla. Winners will get a special reception and screening at City Hall, among other prizes.

Among the 18 judges of the contest are David Arquette, Richard Dreyfuss, Los Angeles City councilman Eric Garcetti, Hill Harper, USA Network’s Jeff Wachtel, Jessica Yu and critic Joe Morgenstern. Arquette, who appeared at a press conference on Wednesday, said that the contest will be a way “to support young filmmakers and all Angelenos, and to promote arts in our city.”
