Rob Tabert also honored at New Zealand conference
Cliff Curtis and Ainsley Gardiner, who produced helmer Taika Waititi’s hit coming-of-age drama “Boy,” took the independent producers of the year kudo at the end of New Zealand’s Screen Production and Development Agency conference over the weekend.
The cousins set up Whenua Films in 2004 to encourage indigenous Kiwi filmmakers and stories.
Producer Rob Tapert was honored as Kiwi industry champion. Tapert has brought in NZ$745 million ($577 million) of offshore coin to New Zealand since handling 1990s skein “Hercules” and “Xena: Warrior Princess.” He is currently lensing series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”
