Jaden Smith kicks off career

ShoWest honors the 'Karate Kid'

From drama to martial arts, Jaden Smith manages a smooth transition as “The Karate Kid.”

This China-set reboot of the 1984 original finds the slender Smith battling bullies, falling in love and learning to live, fight and do what’s right under Jackie Chan’s tutelage.

A professional since he was 5 years old, Smith appeared in episodes of the kid-friendly TV series “All of Us,” and made his feature film debut opposite dad Will Smith with the superstar’s Oscar-nominated turn in “The Pursuit of Happyness.” Mom, of course, is Jada Pinkett Smith

Now 11 years old, Smith is the youngest actor to tackle the iconic role. Ralph Maccio was 22 when he first played Daniel LaRusso before starring in two sequels. Hilary Swank was 19 when the “kid” changed genders for “The Next Karate Kid.”
