Intl. Film Circuit has picked up docu “Freedom Riders” for a summer theatrical release.
Pic, which preemed at Sundance in January, follows the more than 400 black and white civil rights activists who rode together on buses in the south in 1961, as a form of non-violent activism.
“Riders” is produced, written and directed by Stanley Nelson (“Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple”) for PBS skein “American Experience,” which will air the doc in 2011. Pic is based in part on Raymond Arsenault book “Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Radical Justice.”
Other releases from Intl. Film Circuit, which is topped by Wendy Lidell, have included “The Devil Came on Horseback” and “Darwin’s Nightmare.”
