Indian film on the ‘Road’ to U.S.

Tribeca Film picks up rights to movie from Dev Benegal

On the back of its selection for the Tribeca Film Festival, helmer Dev Benegal’s Hindi-language “Road, Movie” has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Tribeca Film.

“Road” will be available on VOD day-and-date with its screening at the fest, which runs April 21-May 2. Further theatrical dates are planned.

Produced by Susan Landau (“Marigold”) and Ross Katz (“Marie Antoinette”), the pic deals with a young man who escapes his family’s hair-oil business by going on a road trip across India in an old Chevy, which is also a touring movie theater.

The filmstars Abhay Deol.

Pic, produced by Studio 18, has also sold to Germany, Israel, Australia, Portugal, Middle East and Benelux. Sales agent Fortissimo expects to close a U.K. deal soon.

Pic opens in India on Friday.
