Thesp joins Jennifer Hudson in political biopic

Terrence Howard will play Nelson Mandela in “Winnie,” joining the previously announced Jennifer Hudson as Winnie Mandela.

Darrell James Roodt (“Yesterday”) directs the South Africa/Canada co-production. Andre Pieterse of Ma-Afrika Films and Michael Mosca of Canada’s Equinoxe Films produce. Pieterse and Roodt wrote the screenplay, which is based on the book “Winnie Mandela: A Life” by Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob.

Principal photograph y on “Winnie” begins May 31 in various locations around South Africa.
