'From Paris With Love' premiere packs punch
Thursday’s “From Paris With Love” New York premiere at the Ziegfeld was a noisy affair.
Lionsgate pic’s high death toll, due to frequent and deafening shoot-em-up action sequences, generated 90 minutes worth of oohing, ahhing and clapping.
Afterwards guests, including pic’s John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, regained their hearing at the Plaza Hotel party, where helmer Pierre Morel explained why he had Travolta’s character confess how much he like royales with cheese.
“That was an homage to Quentin (Tarantino),” Morel said. “When we eventually asked John if he wanted to make that (nod) to ‘Pulp Fiction,’ he was like, ‘Oh yeah!’ ”
Rhys Meyers said the thriller appealed to him because he got to play a role in which he “wasn’t the manipulator.”
For the star, who worked on pic in late 2008, after completing season three of “The Tudors” and “Shelter” with Julianne Moore, the hardest part of the France shoot was “maintaining the high level of energy” that the film demanded.
“By the time Christmas came, I slept through the entire holiday,” he said.
