HFPA dines with the stars

Assn. gives over $1.5M in donations

Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. held its annual lunch yesterday to announce recipients of its charitable donations.

Eva Longoria Parker was on hand to name beneficiaries and present checks on the HFPA’s behalf. The association is handing over $1.5 million in funds to orgs that support higher education, film preservation and cultural exchange through cinema.

Stars including Jane Lynch, Ryan Phillippe and Annette Bening accepted checks on behalf of recipients Outfest, FilmAid International and Sundance Institute, respectively. Nicole Kidman spoke for Scorsese’s The Film Foundation, this year’s largest recipient.

Other major recipients include UCLA and CalArts.

Parker introduced John Slattery, receiving on behalf of UCLA, as her “Desperate Housewives” husband who suffered “an untimely death, like all men on my show.”

“She had me killed,” Slattery joked.

Avik Gilboa, the HFPA’s longest-serving active member, was also honored as the luncheon’s Gold Card recipient.
